Ageless Bicyclists is a non-profit social enterprise that started in Singapore in 2015 and is a member of raiSE, ARAIBA (ASEAN Responsible And Inclusive Business Alliance), an associate member of Asean Autism Network and recognized as Honouree Brands For Good. Ageless Bicyclists seeks to encourage and inspire an active healthy lifestyle through sports (inclusive cycling) and arts especially for different abilities and families.
Malcolm Chen founded Ageless Bicyclists Ltd with the mission to enhance quality of life especially for people with different abilities. The non-profit’s Pedal EnAble programme, not only supports physical well-being but also mental and emotional well-being. For many participants, including stroke survivors, involvement in the programme has supported their re-integration into the community and independence.
Malcolm says ‘Physical activity programmes produce benefit that includes motor skills, skill-related fitness, social and community skills and muscular strength and endurance. Therefore there is a need to provide more opportunities in experiential inclusive cycling.'
Ageless Bicyclists creates a holistic and inclusive programme that unlocks the potential of people with different abilities.
‘I’m a stroke survivor, I really enjoy myself and benefitted in the programme. The trikes cater for stroke survivors with different capabilities….I thought I will not be able to ride two wheel anymore after my stroke. But I did it with initial help!’ Atika Ahmad
‘Wonderful activity with organized logistics and safety considerations. Highly recommended especially for stroke survivors!’ Joanne Toh
Ageless Bicyclists regularly holds Pedal enAble Cycling for All events where people with different abilities come together with the support of volunteers to cycle in different parts of Singapore. These events are valuable opportunities for many stroke survivors to remain active and participate in sociable activities that support a healthy lifestyle.
‘I started cycling with a tricycle after my volunteer helped me…. I was spoilt for choice, a very wide variety of bicycles and tricycles were available. I enjoyed myself so much that I used my stroke affected hand and leg, which I don’t usually use. Wow, I find it so useful exercising my unused hand and leg. The organisers, namely Malcolm with all their helpers and volunteers were so professional, helpful, patient, kind.’ Eddie Kooi
