Narada Amarasinghe from Sri Lanka shares his stroke experience and urges everyone to learn the signs and save #Precioustime
I am Narada Amarasinghe from Sri Lanka. I am a 55 year old attorney-at-law. On 21st of July 2022, I woke up to find that both of my lower and upper limbs were paralysed. I realized it was a stroke right at that moment as both of my parents have had stroke before and I was aware of it. Since nobody was home at that time to hurry to the hospital, I called my brother and he came to help me. As I was admitted to the hospital with an eight hour delay, I was not eligible to have the injection for thrombolysis. Although my brain CT confirmed an ischaemic stroke I would like to emphasize that the time is precious and matters on treatment of stroke. Now after two months I am able to walk with minor support and do my daily activities with minimum help.
Being a member of the Stroke Support Organization for Sri Lankans (SSOS), I am happy to share my experiences as a stroke survivor. SSOS gives me a platform to meet other stroke survivors monthly. The organization also conducts health education programmes, activities to promote physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy, entertainment programmes an outings to minimize our post-stroke depression so as to empower us socially. Thank you SSOS for giving me new hope to my new life.
