The virtual 148th annual WHO Executive Board (WHO EB) was held between Jan 18 - 26 January 2021. During the meeting Member States agreed upon the agenda for the World Health Assembly and the resolutions to be considered by the Assembly. The EB148 agenda was based upon four pillars focusing on universal health coverage, health emergencies, health and well-being, and effective and efficient WHO support. Even though the COVID-19 pandemic dominated the agenda, there were also several NCD related items.
In his opening speech, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director General of the WHO, was calling for global solidarity to solve one of the greatest crises of our time in his opening speech. He added that “this can also be an opportunity to make health the heartbeat of development, and the foundation of a more secure, and more equitable world”.
