The 3rd Global Rehabilitation 2030 meeting focused on progress to date, discussed future actions and introduced new tools.
In July, the World Health Organization hosted the 3rd Global Rehabilitation 2030 meeting in Geneva. WSO’s Executive Committee member, Dr Valeria Caso attended on behalf of the organization.
During the meeting, progress towards the Rehabilitation 2030 Call for Action was discussed, including the adoption of the first ever resolution on strengthening rehabilitation in health systems.
Technical resources
During the meeting a number of resources were launched to support countries to strengthen rehabilitation in their national health systems:
Policy Brief Strengthening rehabilitation in health emergency preparedness, response and resilience
Rehabilitation in Health Financing - Opportunities on the Way to Universal Health Coverage
World Rehabilitation Alliance
The World Rehabilitation Alliance was launched. This is a global network of collaborators with the mission to support the implementation of the Rehabilitation 2030 Initiative. The alliance will focus on advocating for rehabilitation as an essential health service that is both integral to Universal Health Coverage and to achieving the Sustainable Development Goal: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.
‘’This was a highly stimulating meeting. The access to rehabilitation is suboptimal in some areas and completely neglected in others. Data published on access to rehabilitation during the pandemic reported that these gaps increased and were never closed again,’ said Dr Valeria Caso.
Access to stroke rehabilitation and recovery: improving long-term support for patients and carers after a stroke, is one of WSO’s key advocacy priorities.
