We are delighted to share that the proposed resolution on Strengthening Medical Imaging Capacity was adopted by the WHO Executive Board during its session on February 10 and will now proceed to the 78th World Health Assembly (WHA78) in Geneva from May 19–27, 2025.
The resolution was led by Cameroon, co-sponsored by Armenia, Brazil and Burkina Faso and presented for discussion in the Executive Board. By the end of the session, it had garnered strong consensus support from multiple Member States, including China and Thailand. If adopted in May, this resolution will play a critical role in advancing our collective efforts to combat the growing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), by promoting greater access to advanced medical imaging and nuclear medicine.
WSO was a co-signatory to the Constituency Statement and ensured specific language on the critical importance of medical imaging to the treatment of stroke was included. The Constituency Statement was instrumental in raising the Executive Board’s awareness about the challenges LMICs face in addressing NCDs and the essential role of modern imaging technologies in global health. We deeply appreciate your collaboration and advocacy in this important initiative.
