B. Norrving and M. Grupper recently engaged in the virtual WHO Multistakeholder Briefing on the WHO/World Bank 2nd Global Dialogue on Sustainable Financing for NCDs and Mental Health, held on March 15th, 2024.
This dialogue responds critically to UN recommendations spanning from 2011 to 2018. It seeks to foster consensus among stakeholders on actionable strategies for integrating NCDs and mental health into national health financing systems, ensuring equitable access to services. Co-organized by WHO and the World Bank, the Second financing dialogue will gather up to 120 participants from diverse sectors. It builds upon the inaugural Global Dialogue on Partnerships for Sustainable Financing of NCD Prevention and Control in 2018. Featuring plenary sessions and interactive roundtables, it aims to discuss policy recommendations and align stakeholders towards achieving SDG 3.4 and 3.8 by 2030. This event is part of the series of high-level meetings co-organized by WHO, supporting preparations for the Fourth High-level Meeting of the United Nations General Assembly on the Prevention and Control of NCDs and mental health in 2025.
Following the multistakeholder briefing in March 2024, a web-based consultation will occur from April 26 to May 24, 2024, allowing for broader input. The WHO/World Bank 2nd Global Dialogue on Sustainable Financing for NCDs and Mental Health is scheduled for June 18-20, 2024, in Washington DC, USA.
WSO aligns with the NCDA call for government action, urging the development and implementation of costed national NCD strategies, alignment of health spending with national disease burdens, and the adequate implementation of fiscal measures such as taxes on health-harming products like tobacco, alcohol, and unhealthy food.
