On January 22nd, the National Stroke Summit was organized in New Delhi, India. This event was a significant collaboration between WSO, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce, the Medical Doctors Parliamentarian Forum, and Medtronic. During the summit, Ms. Punya Salila Srivastava, the honorable Health Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, released the “National Stroke Action Plan” for India. The summit focused on critical areas such as infrastructure gaps, training needs, and policy advancements. Discussions highlighted the hub-and-spoke model, AI-driven interventions, and the importance of mobile stroke units as key solutions. The WSO Board of Directors, along with future leaders program members and alumni from India, are currently preparing a comprehensive document that will be submitted to the Government in the coming months.
Following the National Stroke Summit, I attended the Global NCD Alliance meeting in Kigali, Rwanda, along with our Executive Director, Maria Grupper. During this meeting, we had the opportunity to engage with several key opinion leaders and policymakers who expressed a strong interest in developing stroke care in African countries. In the aftermath of the meeting, we had discussions with health officials from Rwanda, who showed a keen interest in working with WSO to enhance stroke care initiatives.
Looking ahead, the WSO GSA meeting is scheduled to take place in Hanoi, Vietnam, from July 24th to 26th. Preparations for this meeting are actively underway, and we are excited about the keen interest expressed by the WHO Western Pacific Regional Office in collaborating with us for this program.
