Another Newsletter in these important times. Why is it important? Because everyone is online and everyone is looking for reliable and trustworthy information. The WSO as the global voice of stroke has friends and colleagues on all continents. It is a science-based organisation and helps alleviate the burden of stroke, even more so in times of the COVID pandemic. Our COVID-19 survey addressed the decrease of stroke care and hospital admissions around the world and has shown a dramatic decrease of resources for stroke care in most countries. Only now there is restitution of stroke care at least in those countries where the pandemic is slowing down and health care is gradually returning back to normal. To help restitute efficient stroke care the WSO supports the 'Don't Stay at Home' campaign which is directed towards persons noticing signs of acute stroke.
Our partnership with the WHO is especially valuable in these times. We co-signed an open letter from the NCD alliance asking the US administration not to leave the WHO in such a critical moment. Unfortunately, our petition was not heard and the Trump administration has notified the United Nations that it is giving notice to formally withdraw from the World Health Organisation.
