The WSO Brain & Heart Task Force has authored two publications in high-impact cardiology journals (JACC and European Heart Journal). The goal of these publications is to increase the awareness about the WSO and the importance on Neurocardiology collaborations among Cardiologists.
A. Brain-Heart Week
The WSO Brain & Heart Task Force, along with the World Stroke Academy, organized the Brain & Heart Week in February 2021, a week-long virtual educational program, including the following:
- Paper of the Month: online interview of the coauthors of the JACC paper summarizing the main characteristics of the Stroke-Heart Syndrome and its underlying pathophysiological process (stroke-induced heart injury - SIHI)
- Tweetchat discussing atrial fibrillation, PFO closure, and oral anticoagulants,
- Webinar: microembolism and migraine auras, post-stroke Takotsubo syndrome, and stroke-induced heart injury.
The WSO BEAT (Brain & hEart globAl iniTiative) is a program for developing worldwide Neurocardiology collaborations. The WSO BEAT aims to develop clinical and academic collaborations between stroke physicians and cardiologists in low- and middle-income countries and specific flagship sites in high-income countries under the guidance of the WSO. It is expected to be launched on September 1st 2021, and will consist of a pilot feasibility initiative including a total of 8 sites in the United States, Germany, Mexico, Brazil, China, Egypt, Romania, and Japan.
