FSLP Cohort 2 (2022-2024 intake)
In March 2022, the WSO invited applications to the Future Stroke Leaders Programme from individuals with the potential to lead the transformation of stroke prevention, treatment and support at national, regional and global levels. Within 3 weeks, the application page was closed due to a high number of applications – 100+ application were received. In May, 2022 the taskforce made its initial pre-selection, and the interviews with candidates started in June. A selection committee composed of Future Stroke Leaders leads Prof Werner Hacke, Valeria Caso and Christopher Chen together with members Bernard Yan,Padma Srivastava, Hany Aref, Gisele Silva, Gustavo Saposnik, Craig Anderson and Hugh Markus interviewed 53 shortlisted applicants. Faced with many more talented and highly qualified candidates than could be admitted, the selection committee took great care to choose those with excellent academic, early professional and personal strengths.
A total of 33 early career clinicians and researchers from 23 countries, evenly divided by gender and geography with a diversity of backgrounds, were admitted to the WSO Future Stroke Leaders Programme, cohort 2 (2022-2024 intake). The two - year programme will equip them with an in-depth understanding of key challenges in stroke and how these can be addressed within diverse stroke care systems.
The curriculum will span the stroke care continuum from prevention, acute treatment, post-stroke care through to rehabilitation and will support the development and exercise of key skills including research and peer review, writing for publication, care quality improvement tools, multidisciplinary collaboration, project design and management, and stroke advocacy. The first virtual meeting with the participants of the programme and mentors will take place in November 2022. The Programme face to face conference will take place on April 30th – May 4th, 2023, in Mannheim, Germany. In 2023, seed-funded practical projects supported by WSO mentors will commence, culminating in presentation of the results at the World Stroke Congress in Abu Dhabi, 2024.
