FSLP Cohort 3 (2024-2026 Intake)
In January 2024, the World Stroke Organization (WSO) invited applications for the Future Stroke Leaders Programme from individuals with the potential to lead the transformation of stroke prevention, treatment, and support at national, regional, and global levels. The WSO received over 100 applications, demonstrating the high level of interest and dedication within the stroke care community.
By April 2024, the taskforce made its initial pre-selection, and candidate interviews began in May. A selection committee, composed of Future Stroke Leaders leads Valeria Caso, Christopher Chen, and Hugh Markus, along with members Padma Srivastava, Gisele Silva, Craig Anderson, and Jeyaraj Pandian, interviewed 53 shortlisted applicants. With many talented and highly qualified candidates, the selection committee took great care in choosing those with excellent academic records, early professional achievements, and strong personal qualities.
Ultimately, 29 early-career clinicians and researchers from 21 countries were admitted to the WSO Future Stroke Leaders Programme, Cohort 3 (2024-2026 intake). This cohort is evenly divided by gender and geography and includes individuals with diverse backgrounds. The two-year programme will provide them with an in-depth understanding of key challenges in stroke care and how these can be addressed within various stroke care systems.
The curriculum will cover the entire stroke care continuum, from prevention and acute treatment to post-stroke care and rehabilitation. It will also support the development and exercise of essential skills, including research and peer review, writing for publication, care quality improvement tools, multidisciplinary collaboration, project design and management, and stroke advocacy.
The first virtual meeting with programme participants and mentors will take place in November 2024. The programme's face-to-face conference is scheduled for March 31st – April 4th, 2025, in Perugia, Italy. In 2025, seed-funded practical projects supported by WSO mentors will commence, culminating in the presentation of results at the World Stroke Congress 2026.
The WSO Future Stroke Leaders Programme is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of stroke leaders who will drive innovation and improvements in stroke care worldwide. We are excited to see the progress and contributions of Cohort 3 over the next two years and beyond.
We are pleased to announce the names of the participants of Cohort 3 of the WSO Future Stroke Leaders Programme and extend a warm welcome to each of them!
Good luck! We look forward to meeting you soon on this exciting journey towards transforming stroke care globally.
