The Global Stroke Alliance is a groundbreaking initiative launched in 2020 in Brazil, dedicated to transforming stroke care on a global scale. With a mission to create a robust international alliance, the GSA focuses on enhancing stroke prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation through evidence-based interventions.
The GSA unites stroke leaders from around the world, including researchers, health professionals, health managers, scientific societies, industry representatives, and patient associations. Central to the GSA’s mission is the exchange of invaluable experiences and the development of region-specific action plans that address unique local challenges and opportunities.
The event is built around four key pillars:
A significant event within the GSA congress is the Ministerial Meeting. Representatives from various Ministries of Health and stroke experts identify gaps in stroke care, discuss successful models, and propose actionable solutions. These deliberations result in concrete plans aimed at making substantial improvements in stroke care within different regions.
Looking ahead, the GSA is committed to rotating its meetings across various regions of the world. The upcoming GSA meeting promises an engaging 3-day program.
The GSA aims to foster in-depth discussions on evidence-based interventions at all levels of stroke care, including prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation. By disseminating knowledge, exchanging experiences, and formulating region-specific action plans, the GSA strives to make significant contributions to effective stroke care globally.
The GSA serves as a platform that brings together stroke leaders, distinguished researchers, health professionals, health managers, scientific societies, industry representatives, and patient associations. It focuses on translating research into practice and promoting professional qualification.
Concrete plans for improvement are formulated during the Ministerial Meeting, where representatives from Ministries of Health and Ministries across different countries converge with stroke experts. These discussions address existing gaps, explore best models of stroke care, and propose potential solutions.
The GSA actively engages in building public policies related to stroke care. By collaborating with policymakers, it aims to create an environment conducive to effective stroke prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation.
The WSO Stroke Center Certification Program supports the identification of key actions and priority actions for healthcare institutions in relation to stroke care. Launched in Latin America in 2021, extended India in 2023 and now expanding to MENA-SINO and ASEAN, the program provides a structure and support the optimisation of stroke care in all resource settings.
