The Neuroendovascular Fellowship Training Program has been established under the umbrella of the World Stroke Organization to enhance neurointerventional capacity in low- to middle-income countries where such services are lacking.
Physicians with a background in Neurology, Neurosurgery, and/or Radiology—who have received the highest recommendations from their mentors, colleagues, training institutions, and Health Ministry—will have the opportunity to participate in a one- or two-year fellowship at a high-volume institution outside their home country. For a one-year fellowship, documented and formal neurointerventional experience within their home country will be required.

Information for candidatesTraining Institutions
Large volume neurointerventional centers in different countries will be selected as training sites. Ideally, centers should teach in the same language of their trainee. If different, the trainee should speak the language fluently. A program site director should be appointed by the institution. The program director and appointed faculty at a training institution will interview the candidate and will accept or refuse the applicant within a week timeframe. The training institution should commit to provide a minimum of 1 year, ideally 2 years of formal neurointerventional training with extensive hands-on experience. A minimum of 200 endovascular cases, including diagnostic and treatment procedures, are recommended per fellow, to ensure an adequate exposure to diverse cerebrovascular pathology and endovascular procedures.
The WSO Fellowship Advisory Board will determine the adequacy of these facilities to participate as fellowship sites.
An institution that does not meet the required numbers for specific procedures is encouraged to find partnership and collaboration with other programs/institutions to offer the fellow the required training exposure.
