Accomplished health care leader with over 9 years of experience in rural Karnali Province, Nepal, leading the Department of Internal Medicine in Province Hospital, and pioneering stroke care initiatives throughout the province.
TRAINING : He graduated from Kathmandu University, College of Medical Sciences, Bharatpur, Nepal,in 2007 and completed his Post Graduate studies in Internal Medicine at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Nepal, in 2013.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: Recognizing the critical deficiencies in healthcare infrastructure and human resources in Nepal, Dr. Khechar made a pivotal shift from being an Assistant Professor at Tribhuvan University, Chitwan College of Medical Sciences to serving in the Government of Nepal's most rural and least literate region, the Karnali province. His exceptional leadership was instrumental in establishing vital healthcare facilities, including an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Hemodialysis Units, and later spearheading the creation and operation of the COVID-19 referral center for the entire Karnali Province, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to public health during a critical time. Currently, Dr. Khechar leads a dedicated team of six physicians in Karnali, and collaborates with the Nepal Stroke Project and the Neuromedicine Department at Heidelberg University, focusing on acute stroke care and enhancing preventive strategies against stroke and other non-communicable diseases.
Dr. Khechar serves as the Vice Chairman of the Nepal Medical Association in Surkhet, Nepal and is also the member of World Stroke Organization and the American College of Physicians.
RESEARCH : He significantly contributed to epidemiological research in assessing the prevalence of hypertension in Karnali Province and effectiveness of community-based intervention measures. He also actively participated in Anti-Corona virus therapy trials (ACT-2). Currently, he is involved in evaluating the risk factors of stroke in the community and assessing the effectiveness of awareness activities with help of the provincial government.
IN PRIVATE LIFE : Dr. Khechar is a devoted father of two, cherishing his free time with his children and enjoying family travels together. He also has a passion for music and stays active through various fitness activities.
