Member Bio

Dr. Nishita Singh is an early career researcher, stroke neurologist and epidemiologist with a primary interest in carotid diseases and acute stroke. She serves as an Assistant Professor and holds the Heart & Stroke Research Chair at the University of Manitoba.

Training

Nishita completed her Doctor of Medicine in Neurology at Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College, Mumbai, followed by neurology residency training at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. She pursued a fellowship in stroke at the University of Calgary, supported by the Denyse Lake Lajoie Scholarship Award. She is certified as a stroke scholar by the Canadian Stroke Consortium fellowship program. In addition, Nishita also holds a master’s degree in Epidemiology from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Research Areas

Her research focusses in carotid diseases and acute stroke research, focusing on symptomatic non-stenotic carotid disease (SyNC), innovative consent methodologies in acute stroke trials, and equitable access to stroke care. She leads the SyNC Canada prospective registry, exploring the risks of recurrent events and healthcare burdens associated with non-stenotic carotid disease. 

Her contributions extend globally, including involvement in the ACT-GLOBAL adaptive platform trial and collaborating with Mission Thrombectomy to enhance stroke capacity in low- and middle-income countries.
