Susanna Zuurbier is a Dutch Neurologist. She graduated her master's degree in medicine with honors from the University of Amsterdam. She received her Ph.D. in Cerebral Venous Thrombosis and completed her neurology training at the Amsterdam University Medical Center. After finishing her neurology residency, she started a 1-year neurovascular fellowship at Antwerp University Hospital in Belgium. She completed the Clinical Scholars Research Training Certificate Program at Harvard Medical School. Additionally, Susanna completed the European Academy of Neurology Clinical Fellowship at the Stroke Clinic Centre for the Prevention of Stroke and Dementia at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. She also completed a research fellowship at the University of Edinburgh, Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences, focusing on intracerebral haemorrhage under supervision of Professor Al-Shahi Salman. She was awarded a Dutch Neurovascular Science prize in 2020 for the most deserving neurovascular publication in the past two years.
Susanna Zuurbier is currently chair of the Young Stroke Professional Committee of the World Stroke Organization and a member of the European Stroke Organisation Simulation Committee. She has authored or co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters. Her primary research interests are cerebral venous thrombosis, intracerebral haemorrhage, and cerebral cavernous malformations.
