Dr. Vishnu VY’s journey in the field of Neurology began with his under graduation (MBBS) at the Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, (with rural service at Cherpu Community Health Centre, Thrissur, Kerala). He completed his residency in Internal medicine in Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry and Neurology residency in the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. He worked as Consultant in Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences, Puducherry (June 2015-May 2016) and as Assistant Professor in Neurology Department at PGIMER Chandigarh (May 2016-Nov 2016). Dr. Vishnu V.Y is an Assistant Professor in the Neurology Department of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi since November 2016.
Dr. Vishnu VY has acquired training in Cochrane Systematic Reviews as also Health Research methodology and Evidence-Based Medicine through in-service Workshops. Dr. Vishnu’s field of interest in neurology - Stroke research, Evidence-based medicine and Artificial Intelligence - are the result of his experience in these different Institutions.
His curious mind and his passion for his specialization have led to his undertaking several research projects, publishing research papers, writing chapters in Neurology books and the many awards that he has achieved. He is currently active in managing 11 projects in AIIMS of which 7 are Stroke centred. He has to his credit 63 publications of which 15 are related to various aspects of Stroke and 51 of these publications are Pubmed indexed. He has co-authored chapters in five books.
From 2002 to date, he has been the recipient of many awards ranging from regional to international level, the most notable being American Academy of Neurology Young Investigator: International scholarship award (2015), World Stroke Congress Young Investigator Award (2018), Early Career Award from Department of Biotechnology, Government of India and David Sackett Memorial Award for Outstanding Performance at International course in Health Research methods and Evidence-based medicine, St John’s Hospital in collaboration with Macmaster’s University, Canada.
